Stanford redshirt freshman QB Kevin Hogan will make his first career start on Saturday against No. 11 Oregon State.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Kevin Hogan will start for the Stanford Cardinal against the Oregon State Beavers on Saturday, head coach David Shaw announced on Tuesday (via SI.com's Stewart Mandel).

Hogan took over for Josh Nunes early in the Cardinal's game against the Colorado Buffaloes last weekend and proceeded to account for 232 total yards and two touchdowns in Stanford's 48-0 victory. The offense had started to stall behind Nunes, who has a 52.8-percent completion rate with 1,643 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2012.

Oregon State will likely provide a much stiffer test than Colorado, which ranks 119th in FBS in yards per game allowed. Still, Hogan, a Washington, D.C. native who was the 51st-ranked quarterback in the 2011 recruiting class, possesses added elements of size and mobility that Nunes is missing.

Kickoff between the No. 14 Cardinal and No. 11 Beavers is slated for 3 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be televised nationally on FOX.
