The Stanford Cardinal are at No. 12 in Samuel Chi's simulated BCS Standings for Week 7. The Cardinal are up two spots from last week and are in position to get to a BCS bowl game if they can take care of business the rest of the way.
The BCS title game may not be on the minds of many Stanford fans, but Chi says that the Cardinal do have a shot at making it to the championship if they were to win out. Their difficult schedule with a number of high-profile games will gain them favor in the polls:
12. Stanford – The Cardinal are essentially in the same boat as USC, whom they likely must defeat again to win the Pac-12 if they can navigate a minefield that still includes Notre Dame, Oregon and Oregon State.
Questions about the Cardinal offense may have been answered on Saturday, when they put up 55 points on the Arizona Wildcats in a thrilling come-from-behind overtime win. Stanford is sure to play tough defense and run the ball well, but if Josh Nunes can keep performing like he did against Arizona, the Cardinal would be a dangerous team.
Stanford has a chance to make waves in the BCS standings when it goes on the road to face Notre Dame on Saturday. The Irish are projected at No. 6, so a Cardinal win would make a big impression on the rest of the country.
