After holding the Wildcats scoreless in the first quarter, the Stanford Cardinal defense allowed 13 points in the second quarter and were unable to extend their lead, but still enter halftime with a slim 14-13 lead at Stanford Stadium.
Not only did the Wildcats score all 13 of their points in the second quarter, but the team was able to put points on the board against the Cardinal defense in every one of their three second quarter possessions. In addition, the Wildcats offense was able to consistently extend their drives in the second quarter, evident by their 12, 16 and 13 play drives, which kept the Cardinal offense off the field.
While Stanford had just two possessions in the second quarter, they were able to score a much needed touchdown on the second drive. This time it was quarterback Josh Nunes making plays with tight end Levine Toilolo, as the two connected on a 46 yard pass and a 12 yard pass for a touchdown in the same drive.
Along with Nunes, senior running back Stepfan Taylor starred in the first half, taking 18 carries for 79 yards.
