Coming off its big win against then No. 2 Oregon, No. 8 Stanford can clinch a berth in the Pac-12 Championship game with a win against No. 17 UCLA on Saturday.
At 7-1, the Cardinal are currently tied atop the Pac-12 North with Oregon, but Stanford holds the tiebreaker due to their win against the Ducks. If the Cardinal can knock off UCLA on Saturday, they would advance to play the Bruins again in the Pac-12 Championship. The winner of that game, would advance to play in the Rose Bowl.
Stanford will face a challenge on Saturday, going against a streaking Bruin team which has won five straight games. The Bruins clinched the Pac-12 South with their 38-28 win against USC last week. Stanford freshman quarterback Kevin Hogan will make his third career start on Saturday. He led the Cardinal to wins against ranked teams in each of his first two starts.
The Cardinal have won the last three games against UCLA, outscoring the Bruins 80-19 in the last two seasons. Despite the recent success against the Bruins, Stanford opened as a 1-1/2-point underdog.
