The Stanford Cardinal begin life after Andrew Luck on Friday, Aug. 31 at home against the San Jose State Spartans.
The Cardinal are one of three Pac-12 programs to be ranked in The Associated Press preseason Top 25 poll, coming in at 21st in the nation. Stanford has now been ranked in the AP Top 25 for 32 consecutive weeks. The most recent USA Today coaches poll also ranked Stanford, tabbing the Cardinal at number 18 to start the season.
After going to back-to-back BCS bowl games with Luck under center, Cardinal have named redshirt junior Josh Nunes as their next starting quarterback. Stanford is coming off of an 11-2 season and despite losing Luck to the NFL, Head Coach David Shaw has 48 players returning, including 15 players who started seven games or more.
San Jose St. will be led by junior college transfer quarterback David Fales who began his career at Nevada before spending two seasons at Monterrey Peninsula College where he threw for more than 4,000 yards and completed over 60 percent of his passes.
The game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. PT/10:00 p.m. ET from Stanford Stadium and can be seen on Pac-12 Networks.
