In what might end up being a pretty embarrasing moment for the San Francisco Chronicles, it looks as if they got their breaking story all wrong.
So Tom FitzGerald filed a report earlier this morning that had Terrapins athletic director Kevin Anderson leaving Maryland for Stanford to take their athletic director position. Unfortunately, FitzGerald had to use the dreaded word, "sources", and they seemed a bit sketchy to begin with.
Turns out this isn't the case, and now Anderson is vehemently denying any connection between him and the Stanford job. Ruh-roh.
Anderson: "There’s no truth to that. That is a bad rumor and whoever wrote that should be fired."— Patrick Stevens (@D1scourse) July 16, 2012
Anderson: "I have not talked to anyone at Stanford about that job and no one at Stanford has talked to me about their job."— Patrick Stevens (@D1scourse) July 16, 2012
Followed up with another question and Anderson paused before saying: "Patrick, you're stuck with me." Well then.— Patrick Stevens (@D1scourse) July 16, 2012
So even if Anderson was interested in the Stanford AD position, it looks as if he's backing away from that position now. Looks like Stanford will have to find another athletic director to take their position.
