NCAA Women's Final Four: Brittney Griner, Baylor Shut Down Stanford 59-47

The Baylor Bears didn’t have their offense in great shape. The dominant Brittney Griner only managed 13 points overall on three of nine shooting (although she did hit seven free throws). But her defensive impact was crucial, as she and Destiny Williams combined to grab 19 rebounds and nail 12 of the 19 Baylor free throws to help the Bears pull away from the Stanford Cardinal in the regional semifinal.

Stanford actually held a small lead early in the second half at 29-27 before Baylor ripped off a 19-5 run to take command. Stanford would never get closer than six points. Stanford shot 33.3% from the field and couldn’t give Nnemkadi Ogwumike much help. Nnemkadi scored 22 points (although it took 23 shots) and grabbed 9 boards, while her sister Chiney Owgumike only put up four points and fouled out.

Toni Kokenis provided the most support for Stanford with nine points, but the Cardinal simply struggled to make buckets once Baylor took control, and it was their downfall against the undefeated Bears.
