The Stanford Cardinal could be playing their last home game of the 2011-12 season Monday night as they host the Illinois State Redbirds (21-13, 9-9 Missouri Valley) in the second round of the NIT tournament at Maples Pavilion.
The No. 3 seeded Cardinal (22-11, 10-8 Pac-12) remain the highest seed standing in their region, after No. 1 Arizona and No. 2 Mississippi were eliminated early. That means the Card could remain at Maples until the semifinals March 27-29 out in New York. The winner takes on the Nevada Wolf Pack in the quarterfinals on Wednesday night.
Senior Josh Owens is only one point away from 1,000 career points at Stanford, becoming only the 40th player in school history to achieve that feat in the 97 years of the program’s existence.
