Stanford University announced Wednesday that men's basketball head coach Johnny Dawkins signed a two-year contract extension that would keep him on the Cardinal sideline through the 2015-16 season. His previous six year contract was set to expire after the 2013-14 season. In three seasons with the Cardinal, Dawkins is 49-48 with an appearance in the semifinals of the 2009 College Basketball Invitational.
↵Since the 2009 CBI appearance, Stanford has gone 29-34 and finished 7-11 in conference play each season. While the Cardinal have not bounced back to the form they held under Mike Montgomery, the youth in place could put them in prime position to take a step forward in 2011. They return their entire roster, which includes rising seniors Jeremy Green and Josh Owens. Green led the Cardinal with 16.7 points per game and Owens led the team with 6.5 rebounds per game. They'll be counted on to lead Stanford into Pac-12 play this fall.
