When the Stanford Cardinal women's basketball team has found themselves in a tough spot this year, they've turned to the tall ones for the big buckets. The Ogwumike sisters are the engine that make the Cardinal such a tough team to deal with, and they were the difference between a shocking Sweet 16 upset, and a trip to the Elite 8 after eliminating the North Carolina Tar Heels.
↵With the game tied at 57 with five and a half minutes left, Nnemkadi Ogwumike stepped up and made two free throws. When North Carolina tied it again at 59, Nnemkadi responded with three layups to push the Cardinal lead to four. UNC tied it up again, and little sister Chiney came through with the two big baskets with a jumper and an offensive rebound putback (off a miss by her sister, of course). Stanford went up by 4 with 42 seconds left, and they held on. Nnemkadi finished with 19 points, Chiney 16 points and 11 rebounds.
↵Now the Cardinal face eleventh seeded Gonzaga in Spokane on Monday night. Even when it seems to get easier, it only gets harder.
