The 2011 college football regular season has just about come to a close with only the Army-Navy game left before bowl season begins. The close of the regular season means the awards season is now upon us. Thursday evening, ESPN will host the 2011 College Football Awards show, which features a variety of awards going to offensive, defensive and special teams players.
The show airs at 6:00pm pacific and could give us a glimpse at how the Heisman Trophy balloting could finish this weekend. Stanford Cardinal QB Andrew Luck is nominated for the Maxwell Award and the Davey O'Brien Award. The Maxwell Award goes to the college player of the year and features Luck, Kellen Moore and Trent Richardson. Quarterbacks have won the award every year since 2003. The Davey O'Brien Award goes to the nation's best quarterback and features Luck, Case Keenum and Robert Griffin III.
It is also worth noting that Stanford guard David DeCastro is nominated for the Outland Trophy, which goes to the nation's most outstanding interior lineman. DeCastro is up against Alabama offensive tackle Barrett Jones and Penn State defensive tackle Devon Still.
