Reality: The Indianapolis Colts are probably the worst team in the NFL.
Reality: The Indianapolis Colts could end up with the number one draft pick.
Reality: The Indianapolis Colts will very likely have the opportunity to draft Andrew Luck.
Reality: Peyton Manning is not the biggest fan of Phil Simms right now.
As you may recall, Simms is not quite buying stock on Luck yet, despite the fact that a great majority of scouts are really grading the consensus top pick. On Showtime's Inside The NFL, Simms took it one step forward.
"There is no way if Peyton Manning is given a clean bill of health -- I'm going to go on that assumption -- that he is going to let them draft Andrew Luck. "In this day and age, even with Peyton Manning, people would be crying, 'We've got to see Andrew Luck.'"
Manning had a pretty quick retort to Simms's assertion, and pretty much devastated him in every which way imaginable. Phillip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star reports.
Phil Simms says you won’t endorse the Colts selecting Luck …
"Yeah, I don’t talk to Phil. Phil doesn’t talk to me. He did text me after that, saying ‘Hey, sorry to drag your name into this.’ I wrote back, ‘Phil I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ He said, ‘Well on my show, Inside the NFL, I made this statement.’ I said, ‘Phil, I hate to break it to you, but I don’t watch your show, along with a lot of other people that I don’t think watch that show.’ Giving himself a little more credit than probably was merited.
Ouch. "No one likes you, no one watches you, no one cares what you think." Doesn't get much more brutal than that.
Peyton Manning has hosted Andrew Luck at some of his summer camps, so it's not a huge surprise that Manning would be this biting at Simms. Or he could just be fooling around a bit (just a bit).
