Although Stanford Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck is attempting to be only the third QB in history to defeat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in three consecutive seasons, he has already etched his name in the record books.
After David Ruffer missed a 20 yard field goal for Notre Dame, Andrew Luck led the Cardinal on another long scoring drive in the second quarter, culminating in a 28 yard touchdown pass to Coby Fleener that put Stanford ahead by a score of 14-0. The touchdown pass, Luck's second of the game, was the 78th TD pass of his college career, which breaks the previous Stanford record of 77, set by John Elway. The touchdown was also Luck's 33rd of the season, which breaks his own single-season record.
With just 0:10 left in the first half, Luck pushed his records even further forward with an 11 yard pass to Ty Montgomery, which sends Stanford into the half leading 21-0.
The Stanford defense has done a great job of shutting down Notre Dame's offense, holding them to just 75 total yards in the first half and an average of 2.7 yards per play. They have forced turnovers on a fumble and an interception.
