The Stanford Cardinal certainly have a star on their roster and a position-leading talent in quarterback Andrew Luck, who is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The team, though, may actually have two such position-leading players. Senior tight end Coby Fleener is projected to be the top tight end taken in the 2012 NFL Draft, according to NFL Draft Scouts.
Fleener has the second most receiving yards of all Cardinal receivers this year, racking up 214 yards on 10 receptions through the team's first four games. He also leads Stanford with the team's's longest reception (60 yards) and the team's most touchdowns (five).
Fleener has become a consistent target for Luck in the end zone and he's on pace to post far better numbers than last season. Last season, Fleener had only 434 receiving yards total and seven touchdowns last season. This year, he's on pace to surpass those figures with 642 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Those are the type of numbers that professional scouts notice, and Fleener could join Luck in the NFL next season. Before the two head off into the big leagues, though, the two will try to solidify their already memorable legacies at Stanford by delivering the Cardinal a national title.
