After automatically qualifying for the BCS by finishing in the top four of college football's most important ranking, the Stanford Cardinal were selected by the Orange Bowl in Sun Life Stadium to face the Virginia Tech Hokies. The game will be on January 3rd at 8:30 PM ET/5:30 PM PT on ESPN.
Stanford became an attractive choice thanks to having the potential number one pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and likely Heisman finalist Andrew Luck. Also, Jim Harbaugh will be the hottest coaching prospect and is likely to be up for a lot of potential offerings from both college and NFL programs, and it'll be a definite source of interest to bring in the TV ratings. Since the Connecticut Huskies won't be a distinctively higher draw in ticket sales, it became elementary for the Orange Bowl to pick Stanford.
They'll be facing the Virginia Tech Hokies, who haven't lost since starting the season 0-2 with losses to the Boise St. Broncos and James Madison. Virginia Tech finished the season on an eleven game winning streak, sweeping the ACC and capping off with a 44-33 victory over the Florida St. Seminoles in their conference championship game.
