Final 2010 BCS Rankings Released, Stanford Cardinal Earn Fourth Spot, Automatic Bid

Thanks to the rule of four that requires an at-large team to be selected, a Pac-10 team finally benefits. The Stanford Cardinal are headed toward the BCS. They won’t be going to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena (TCU took their spot because of the rule that requires a team to take a non-automatic qualifier), but they will be playing in an important January game, likely either the Orange Bowl in Miami against the Virginia Tech Hokies or the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale against the Oklahoma Sooners.

There was a small worry that Ohio State or Wisconsin would leapfrog them in the polls and push Stanford to the fifth spot, but those worries were dashed when the Cardinal barely changed position after the release of the Coaches Poll. It was all in all a painless and stress-free week for Stanford fans, who knew they were in the driver’s seat once Boise State got upset by Nevada and LSU fell to Arkansas. The announcement for which bowl Stanford ends up in should be only minutes away, so stay tuned!
