Stanford women's basketball coach Tara Vanderveer won her 800th game as a basketball coach as the Stanford Cardinal defeated the University of San Francisco Dons 100-45. Vanderveer is now 800-197 in 32 seasons of coaching, the last 25 of which have come at Stanford. 648 of her wins came with the Cardinal and the remaining 152 were split between the University of Idaho and Ohio State University.
↵Women's college basketball has been in the news recently with UConn's record-breaking 89 game winning streak, but Vanderveer's mark is impressive given the longevity required. She becomes just the sixth women's coach to reach the 800-win mark. This particular game was of additional significance as she faced two of her former players, Jennifer Azzi and Katy Steding. Azzi is the first year head coach at USF while Steding is her associate head coach. Vanderveer introduced Azzi when she was inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame a few years back.
