Stanford, CA (Sports Network) – Jeremy Green poured in 21 points to power the Stanford Cardinal to an 81-60 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers in non- conference action from Maples Pavilion.
Anthony Brown pitched in 13 points for Stanford (2-0), which got 12 points apiece from Aaron Bright and Andrew Zimmerman. Adding further balance to the lineup was Dwight Powell with 10 points. Mustapha Farrakhan posted 14 points in defeat for Virginia (2-1). The Cavaliers also got 12 points from Joe Harris and 10 points from Jontel Evans.
Neither team was able to pull away in the first half, and Stanford needed a three-pointer from Bright at the buzzer to grab a 37-34 lead at intermission. Leading 47-45 with 15 minutes remaining in the game, the Cardinal went on a 15-3 run to crush any hope the Cavaliers had of winning the game. Stanford won easily despite a 6-of-14 effort from the foul line.
The Cardinal host Arkansas Pine-Bluff out of the SWAC this Sunday at 5pm pacific.
