Seattle, WA (Sports Network) – Andrew Luck completed 19-of-26 passes for 192 yards and one touchdown, and was intercepted once, as 13th-ranked Stanford dismantled Washington, 41-0, at Husky Stadium.
Luck also ran for 92 yards and a score while Stepfan Taylor carried 20 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns for the Cardinal (7-1, 4-1 Pac-10), who are off to their best start since opening the 1970 season at 8-1.
Tyler Gaffney added 50 yards rushing and a score on 13 totes while Ryan Whalen made five catches for 59 yards for Stanford, which improved to 3-1 on the road.
Jake Locker suffered through a miserable game, connecting on just 7-of-14 throws for 64 yards and a pair of interceptions and added only a single yard rushing on eight tries for the Huskies (3-5, 2-3), who have lost two in a row and three of their last four.
The Cardinal moved 86 yards in five plays to strike on their first drive.
Out of the shotgun, Luck faked an inside handoff and dashed around the left end 51 yards for a touchdown with 8:37 to play in the opening stanza.
Stanford forced another punt and quickly marched 42 yards on six plays to move in front 14-0. Taylor capped the drive with a two-yard scoring run over the left side with 4:20 to go in the period.
Following another stunted Huskies offensive set, the visitors eased their way down the field 61 yards on six plays and took a 21-0 lead on the first play of the second quarter on Taylor’s three-yard run over the right side.
Stanford scored on a fourth straight possession to extend its lead to 28-0 with 8 1/2 minutes remaining before intermission. Gaffney capped a 10-play, 80-yard drive with a three-yard scoring dash.
Nate Whitaker missed a 40-yard field goal attempt with just under five minutes to go in the half. It was his first miss in 12 tries this season and ended his school-record string of 16 consecutive makes dating back to last season.
The Huskies were held to four first downs in the opening 30 minutes and were outgained, 318-35.
Johnson Bademosi picked off Locker with 10 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter to set up Whitaker’s 22-yard boot that made it 31-0 a little more than three minutes later.
Luck connected with Zach Ertz on a slant pattern from three yards out on the final play of the third quarter to extended the Cardinal lead to 38-0, and a 39-yard boot by Whitaker increased the margin to 41-0 in the fourth quarter.
Stanford has won five of the last six meetings overall and each of its last three visits to Seattle…The Cardinal’s three straight wins at Husky Stadium is their longest win streak there since taking five in a row between 1967-75. Stanford has scored 35-plus points in 13 of its last 21 games and no fewer than 18 in each of the last 19 games…This season is the first since 1972 that Stanford has recorded two shutouts in a campaign…Luck tied Chris Lewis for eighth place in school history with 33 TD throws…Taylor had his fifth 100-yard game of the season, two shy of Toby Gerhart’s school record…Doug Baldwin made five grabs for 56 yards while Ertz had three catches for 20 yards for the victors…Chris Polk was Washington’s leading rusher with 17 yards on 13 carries…Former offensive lineman Benji Olson, who spent 10 years in the NFL with the Oilers/Titans, was inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame Friday night.
