San Jose Sharks' prospect Taylor Doherty will be out at least six weeks after surgery on a sliced achilles tendon, according to CSN Bay Area. The defenseman is in his second full season with the Sharks affiliate in Worcester.

Doherty tallied six points in 63 games last season for the Worcester Sharks. He also amassed 74 shots on goal and 76 penalty minutes. This season, his offensive output had picked up as he had scored a goal and assisted twice in Worcester's first 14 games. He also has spent time in the penalty box less frequently, with just six PIM on the year.

The 21-year-old was originally drafted by the Sharks in 2009 after spending two seasons with the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL. He continued with the Frontenacs for another two seasons before moving to Worcester at the tail end of the 2010-11 campaign. In 263 OHL games, he netted 38 goals and 99 points.
