Couture was drafted in the first round (19th overall) by the Sharks in 2007 and had 31 goals and 34 assists in 80 games for the Sharks last season. Couture has scored 30-plus goals in each of his first two full seasons with the Sharks.
Couture's teammate Joe Thornton has scored three goals and recorded six assists through 10 games this season with HC Davos. Thornton's nine points ranks him 30th in scoring in the league as his club sits in 10th place with 11 points.
Thornton is a 15-year veteran of the NHL and has spent the last seven seasons with San Jose Sharks. Thornton had 18 goals and 59 assists for the Sharks in 2011-12. Thornton won the Art Ross (most points) and Hart Memorial (MVP) trophy as a member of the Sharks in 2006.
