Conference USA announced on Monday where it would send its bowl-eligible teams, making the postseason picture for the San Jose State Spartans much clearer, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
SMU will go to the Hawaii Bowl, while Rice or East Carolina will head to the New Orleans Bowl. Since San Jose State was a potential participant in each, those two have now been eliminated from the realm of possibility as a result.
That leaves the Spartans with an possible appearance at Washington D.C.'s Military Bowl on Dec. 27 or the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl in Detroit on Dec. 26. Another potential landing spot is the Music City Bowl in Nashville.
Conference realignment is playing a major part in San Jose State's uncertainty.
The Military Bowl has a spot available because Army isn't bowl-eligible, and the ACC does not have enough teams to fill all of its contracted spots. The Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl is likely to have an at-large spot available due to the Big Ten also not having enough teams to satisfy its eight commitments.
