Texas State vs. San Jose State: Game time, TV schedule and more

New, 1 comment

The San Jose State Spartans have a chance at bowl eligibility, something they haven't had since 2008. David Fales has carried the team to 5-2, but the Texas St. Bobcats present a chance for SJSU's running game.

The 5-2 San Jose St. Spartans face the 3-3 Texas St. Bobcats on Saturday. The Spartans are 1-1 in the Western Athletic Conference thanks to a 52-24 win over the USTA Roadrunners in Week 8, and a win here would move them towards the top of the WAC standings. The Bobcats are also coming off a win, a 38-7 domination of the Idaho Vandals that stopped a two-game losing streak.

A sixth win would make the Spartans bowl eligible. San Jose's last bowl appearance was 2006, when they beat the New Mexico Lobos in the New Mexico Bowl, 20-12.

Texas St. has the second-worst run defense in the WAC, meaning this may be the game where the Spartans run game finally breaks out. The Spartans are averaging 101 yards per game on the ground, partly because they've found success relying on the arm of junior David Fales. Fales has thrown for 2146 yards with a 74 percent completion rate, collecting 15 touchdowns with only three interceptions.

The Sparatan defense is allowing an average of 23 points per game, something that could give the Bobcats trouble. They're averaging 25.7 points scored per game, and have lost by double-digits in all three of their losses.
