The San Jose State Spartans take on the UTSA Roadrunners in Week 8, with both teams coming off tough losses. SJSU lost to the Utah State Aggies, opening their WAC conference schedule at 0-1. UTSA was 5-0 (1-0 WAC) when the faced the Rice Owls, but a 34-14 loss dropped them to 5-1.
San Jose will have their work cut out for them on both sides of the ball. The Spartans' attack centers around the pass, and UTSA is giving up an average of only 18.3 points and 193.8 passing yards per game. San Jose -- averaging only 102.5 rush yards per game -- will need big days from De'Leon Eskridge and Tyler Ervin if they want to open up the field for David Fales. A strong rush would also help San Jose's beleaguered offensive line, which gave up 13 sacks against Utah State.
On defense, the Spartans will look to contain Eric Soza, who has a 58.7 percent completion rate and 11 touchdowns, as well as David Glasco II and Evans Okotcha, who have combined for over 500 rushing yards and ten touchdowns. The Roadrunners are averaging 33.8 points scored per game and have taken four of their five wins by double-digit margins.
Game time is 11 a.m. PT. Television coverage will be provided by ESPN3.
