Despite taking a beating, San Jose State QB David Fales is fine

The San Jose State Spartans had been clicking pretty nicely since an opening-week loss to Stanford. Unfortunately, all good four-game win streaks have to come to an end, and the Utah State Aggies were more than happy to help.

It was all Utah State all the time in the Spartans' 49-27 loss. It was San Jose State's most lopsided loss since the 2011 season opener to the Andrew Luck-led Stanford team, who won 57-3. Since then, as Jimmy Durkin of the San Jose Mercury points out, SJSU hadn't lost a game by more than 13 points.

It is hard to come up with positives in such a lopsided loss, but quarterback David Fales put up splendid passing numbers. He set a school record for completions with 38 and a personal best 467 yards passing. But he also got hit -- a lot. Fales was sacked 13 times to the tune of 102 lost yards.

Spartans coach Mike MacIntyre was worried that his quarterback would be a bit fatigued in practice this week, but he said Fales is eagerly looking to bounce back.

"Last night at practice, he was running around," MacIntyre said of SJSU's Sunday practice. "I thought
he'd be walking wounded, but he's up and going, excited about playing again."
