According to the Pittzburgh Post-Gazette, former Sharks forward Benn Ferriero has signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The deal is worth $700,000 at the NHL level. A 25-year-old native of Boston, Ferriero had seven goals and one assist for eight points for San Jose last season and in his 92 career NHL games, he's netted 14 goals and added eight assists.
The Sharks had decided not to tender Ferriero a qualifying offer, which made him eligible to sign anywhere. His most memorable moment as a member of the Sharks came in the 2011 Western Conference semifinal against the Red Wings, when he notched an overtime goal that gave San Jose a 2-1 victory.
Post-Gazette writer Shelly Anderson notes that because Ferriero played at Boston College, he'll likely know a few guys at Penguins training camp.
