San Jose Sharks Offseason: Jim Johnson Hired, Replaces Matt Shaw

The San Jose Sharks are continuing the offseason shuffle with another coaching change. Assistant coach Matt Shaw is getting the boot. Kevin Kurz of Comcast Sports Net files this report that has Jim Johnson getting hired and taking the spot that Shaw used to occupy.

Johnson has had coaching experience previous to this position, most recently with the Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning and was also an interim head coach with the Phoenix Coyotes back in the day. Shaw had been with the Sharks organization as an assistant coach since 2009 after spending a stint with the Minnesota Wild as a video coach and an assistant coach.

This is the latest in a number of coaching changes recently in the Sharks staff, with Larry Robinson being brought on as an assistant earlier this week. These type of shifts in coaching could mean that the ownership is getting impatient with the current results they're seeing on the ice. This may be head coach Todd McLellan's last chance. They're getting rid of everyone else and if they keep losing, it's clear that the onus of losing will fall on him on that point.
