Sharks Pick Up Sixth Straight, Beat Flames In Shootout

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Ryane Clowe tied the game late in regulation and scored the lone shootout goal, as the San Jose Sharks rallied to beat the Calgary Flames, 4-3, at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Clowe came off the boards and took a pass from Patrick Marleau before firing a wrister past Calgary's Miikka Kiprusoff on the blocker side with 2:34 remaining in the third period.

Then, in the third round of the shootout, Clowe beat Kiprusoff on a backhand- forehand deke. Antti Niemi turned away Olli Jokinen to assure the extra point for the Pacific Division leaders.

Devin Setoguchi and Kyle Wellwood also lit the lamp for San Jose, which notched its sixth straight win to finish February with an 11-2-0 record. Niemi made 21 saves through overtime.

Anton Babchuk, David Moss and Niklas Hagman scored for the Flames, who have dropped four of their last seven games. Kiprusoff stopped 30 shots in defeat.

Setoguchi followed up his own shot to open the scoring 3:34 into the contest. Calgary pulled even on Babchuk's marker with 1:55 to play in the first period.

Wellwood made it 2-1 at 9:37 of the second, but Moss and Hagman scored 1:36 apart later in the frame to give the Flames a 3-2 lead.

Moss let go a slap shot from the right circle at 15:54, then Hagman stick-handled around a defender and roofed the puck at 17:30.

The Sharks improved to 21-11-3 on the road this season...San Jose had lost four of its last six games in Calgary.
