Sharks-Flames: All Around Effort Gives Sharks 3-1 Lead After Two Periods

Through two periods the San Jose Sharks look to be well on their way to an eighth win and the accompanying two points. The Sharks jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period thanks to goals from Joe Thornton and Ryan Clowe.

Thornton scored his sixth goal of the season on a power play just 1:06 into the game thanks to assists by Jason Demers and Dan Boyle. Ryan Clowe followed that goal at 10:24 in the first with his third goal of the season with assists from Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture. Mark Giordano cut the lead in half on a power play 51 seconds into the second period. However, the Sharks were able to extend the lead back to two goals after Joe Pavelski scored his fourth goal of the season at the 16:22 mark.

San Jose has been firing away on Flames goalie Mikka Kiprusoff all night long to the tune of 30 shots on goal through two periods. Sharks goalie Antti Niemi has faced 19 shots and stopped 18. Niemi has struggled this season giving up 3.91 goals per game and is looking for just his second win of the young season.
