San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Chris Wondolowski is close to tying the MLS all-time record for goals scored in a season, but may have too few games left to complete the task.
Currently with 22 goals on the year, Wondolowski would need to score five more over the last four games of the regular season to tie Roy Lassiter's record of 27 goals for the Tampa Bay Mutiny in 1996. Wondo remains eight goals ahead of Real Salt Lake's Alvaro Saborio, New York Red Bulls forward Kenny Cooper and L.A. Galaxy forward Robbie Keane in the race for the MLS Golden Boot award this season.
The 29-year old forward won his third MLS player of the week award after netting three goals for the first place Earthquakes (18-6-6) against Seattle and Portland. San Jose takes on FC Dallas at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara on Saturday starting at 7:30 p.m. PT, with coverage on CSN California.
