MLS Western Conference semifinals, Galaxy vs. Earthquakes recap: Galaxy advance with 3-1 win

The LA Galaxy advanced to the Western Conference Championship for a fourth straight season with their 3-1 win against San Jose on Wednesday.

The Galaxy entered the second leg of the two-match series needing a two goal victory to advance and they got just that. The Earthquakes won the first leg 1-0, but the Galaxy jumped out to a 3-0 first-half lead on Wednesday. Robbie Keane got the Galaxy on the board early with a goal in the 21st minute. It was just the start for Keane, who put Los Angeles up 2-0 with his second goal of the match in the 34th minute.

Mike Magee gave the Galaxy some cushion with a goal in the 39th minute. Leading 3-1 in the aggregate score, the Galaxy just needed to hold on over the final 45 minutes. The Earthquakes cut the Galaxy aggregate lead to one with an Alan Gordon goal in the 82nd minute. San Jose challenged the Galaxy over the final eight minutes and stoppage time, but were never able to find an equalizer.

Landon Donovan played well for the Galaxy, finishing with two assists. The Galaxy will face the winner of Thursday's match between the Seattle Sounders and Real Salt Lake.
