Chris Wondolowski scored three times for San Jose against Colorado, leading a 4-1 win for the Earthquakes over the Rapids on Saturday night. The win gives the Earthquakes 19 wins on the season, with just two games remaining before the playoffs.
Marvin Chavez opened the scoring in just the second minute, shooting a laser through the defense off a rebounded pass deep into the far left corner of the net. Wondolowski would extend the Earthquakes' lead just nine minutes later with his first goal of the game, adding goals in the 51st and 83rd minutes.
Wondolowski leads Major League Soccer with 25 goals in 29 games.
Andre Akpan would erase the shutout bid for San Jose, scoring on a penalty shot in extra time for Colorado.
San Jose has already clinched a playoff spot with just two games remaining, leading the Western Conference with 64 points. The Earthquakes boast the highest-scoring offense in the MLS, leading the league in overall goal differential.
