Hunter Pence hit his third career grand slam as the San Francisco Giants topped the Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-2. Pence has 34 RBI since being acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies, more than anyone else on the Giants in that time frame. His homer put the Giants up 5-0 in the third, and they were able to hold on from there for the win. With the victory, the Giants improve to 82-62 and consolidate their hold on the NL West lead.
Matt Cain picked up his 14th win of the year, giving up one run on five hits over five innings. Six different pitchers came out of the bullpen for the Giants, with only Javier Lopez giving up a run. In addition to Pence's grand slam, Buster Posey and Santiago Castilla picked up an RBI each.
Game 2 of the three game series is scheduled for Saturday at 5:10 p.m. PT.
