San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey continues his second half tear, blasting a three-run home run in the first inning, paving the way for Barry Zito and the rest of the Black and Orange to win game 2 against the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 4-2.
Zito (W, 9-8) allowed two solo shots to first baseman Allen Craig, allowing eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Jeremy Affeldt was solid out of the bullpen, getting last four outs for his third save in his last four attempts.
Joaquin Arias added an RBI double in the sixth to give the Giants a two-run cushion.
Lance Lynn (L, 13-5) allowed four runs on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts in six innings of work.
Posey now leads the major leagues with a .448 batting average and 30 RBIs since the All-Star break, including 12 over his last six games. Buster also owns a 11-game hitting streak, batting .431 in that span.
