The Giants’ minor leaguers continued their march through the second half Monday night, marked by some solid pitching performances and the continued good play of prized OF prospect Gary Brown.
AAA: Fresno lost to Salt Lake City 1-0. The game’s lone run scored on a balk in the fourth inning, which led to the ejection of Fresno manager Bob Mariano. Andrew Kown pitched a gem for the Grizzlies, but the Fresno batters could never break through against SLC starter Matt Shoemaker. Fresno now stands in third place at 53-48.
AA: Richmond defeated Bowie 1-0 behind a masterful start from Justin Fitzgerald. He pitched seven scoreless innings and has his ERA down to 3.86. Brett Bochy, son of current Giants manager Bruce Bochy, pitched yet another perfect ninth inning for his twelfth save of the year. Gary Brown has his average up to .290 and scored for the Flying Squirrels in the game. Richmond is in second place at 53-50.
A+ San Jose had Monday off. They are in fourth place at 13-18 for the second half.
A: Augusta lost their third straight game on Monday to Lexington, 6-2. Ben Thomas hit a home run for Augusta, accounting for their only two runs of the game. Edwin Escobar tallied six strikeouts, but gave up four earned runs to take the loss. Augusta stands at 16-14, second place in their division.
A/SS: Salem-Keizer beat Tri-City 7-6, narrowly avoiding a five-game sweep. Joseph Rapp hit a homer for the Volcanoes, and Kentrell Hill went 2-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
