The San Francisco Giants are looking to upgrade all aspects of their club outside of the starting rotation, which has been phenomenal this season. There is no denying the lineup and bench could improve with an extra outfielder or two, and it appears the Giants are considering bringing on a veteran into the mix.
Rick Ankiel, once a top prospect with the Cardinals, has bounced around from team to team in recent years. He struggled this season with the Washington Nationals and was released last week, but it appears some teams are still interested in the veteran outfielder. A few reports surfaced that San Francisco was interested in adding him, but that is not the case, reports Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area,
Giants want power off the bench but are not considering Rick Ankiel, so I'm told. They crave RH bat at 1B, 3B or OF.

A little more than a week remains before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline will hit, so expect the Giants to be an active bunch in the very near future. This team is currently built to have a chance at the playoffs, but the addition of a power hitting, right-handed hitter could be the difference between the postseason and golf in October.
