Tony La Russa did the right thing for his young National League All-Star starting catcher Buster Posey, who says he's never caught a knuckleball, something he would've had to begin Tuesday's All-Star game doing if Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey had been named the starter.
Instead, Posey will be comfortable with teammate Matt Cain, who La Russa wanted to honor and said gives the NL the best chance from a competitive standpoint.
"We wanted to reward Matt Cain for a career of excellence. It's going to get better and better," La Russa said.
This is the first time in history the Giants have four starters in the All-Star game, with Cain, Posey, Pablo Sandoval and center fielder Melky Cabrera
