The Oakland A's pitching staff suffered another blow on Sunday as the team announced that they will place Brandon McCarthy on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 18 with a strained right shoulder. Oakland has recalled righty Jim Miller from Triple-A Sacramento for the second time this season to serve as the stop-gap.
McCarthy has been hot after starting slow this season, owning a 3-3 record and a 2.95 ERA in nine starts with the A's, though was 3-0 with a 2.43 ERA over his last four outings.
As for Miller, he went 0-1 with two saves and a 3.00 ERA in eight relief appearances in Sacramento before he was called up by Oakland April 25. He was solid in six relief appearances with a 1.93 ERA and .229 BAA before he was sent back to Sac-town May 11.
