ANIMATED: Nate Schierholtz's Inexplicable Dive, Explained

Saturday night's game between the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres was a wild one. Oh, not in the sense of a lot of things happening; more in the sense of every Giants fan sitting at home going "ARE YOU KIDDING ME ARGH" for several hours. You know, just like from 2005 until October of 2010 and then again from about June in 2011 until present. Tim Lincecum pitched eight innings of three-hit baseball, but also allowed and unearned run and four walks. Oh, he also got his first hit of the season in the sixth inning ... to break up a perfect game. Still, it seemed for most of the game that the highlight for the Giants would be an utterly inexplicable moment in the outfield by Nate Schierholtz.

In the top of the sixth inning, Orlando Hudson hit a ball that seemed destined for Triples Alley, but then hung up. Angel Pagan coasted to his left and easily snagged the ball for the third out. Both Nate Schierholtz was hauling ass in from right field and dove behind Pagan on what he must have felt was the trajectory of the ball. If the Giants hadn't won the game, this might be all we were talking about today. So let's talk about this!
