Giants 1B Aubrey Huff Absent Due To Personal Reasons

The San Francisco Giants might have to do without Aubrey Huff for awhile. Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area reports that a personal matter might keep them out of action.

Aubrey Huff did not rejoin his Giants teammates and will not be available to play Tuesday's series opener at Great American Ball Park as he continues to tend to a personal matter, manager Bruce Bochy said.

Huff's equipment bag sat undisturbed in his locker as his teammates took the field to stretch.

"I don't have any other news to give you," said Bochy, who left a voice message for Huff on Tuesday and also exchanged texts. "It's been four or five days now (playing shorthanded), but we're fine. We have coverage everywhere, we think."

Huff has struggled to start out the season. The infielder is currently hitting .182 to start 2012, with an OBP of .300 and OPS of .633, and at 35 years old might be reaching a downswing in his career. Brandon Belt has been starting for the most part at first base since then, and he's been hitting .231 with an OBP of .333 and OPS of .679. So there's a bit of an upgrade at that spot even with Huff out, although the Giants would sure love depth at the position.
