GIants Vs. Mets: Ryan Vogelsong Searching For First Win As David Wright Seeks History Books

After missing most of Spring Training with a back injury, San Francisco Ginats starter Ryan Vogelsong was looking to jump start his season after a DL stint pushed back his first start. Now he's out for his first victory of the season Saturday afternoon against righty Mike Pelfrey and the New York Mets.

Vogelsong (0-1, 2.84 ERA) lasted 6.1 innings against the Pirates last Sunday, though the two runs he allowed would be enough to cost him the game. But the journeyman seems to like pitching on the road after posting a 6-1 record and a 3.57 ERA away from AT&T last season.

As for Pelfrey (0-0, 3.09 ERA), he held Philadelphia in check his last time out, battling for six innings to limit them to just a single run. Now he's hoping to stop their current skid as the Mets have now lost three in a row after taking seven of their first 10.

The Black and Orange will need to study the tape hard on Pelfrey as they have a combined 77 plate appearances against him with only one extra-base hit. Luckily Pablo Sandoval extended his early hitting streak to 13 straight Thursday with his 2-5 effort, bumping his average to .340 on the year along with nine RBI. Buster Posey has also been hot as of late, riding his current 9-16 streak at the plate to a cool .375 average at the moment. Hopefully that trend continues in the Friday matinee.

Still, most Mets fans will have their eyes on David Wright, who looks to tie Darryl Strawberry as the franchise leader in RBI, who also has a 10 game hitting streak of his own.

First pitch is set for 10:10 a.m PT with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM in the Bay and WPIX Network and WFAN 660 AM in New York.
