Buster Posey Not In Lineup For Giants Vs. Rockies With Shingles, Hopes To Play

The San Francisco Giants beloved catcher might have faced another setback. Fortunately, this setback is only temporary. Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area has this report on Buster Posey being out for tonight's game between the Giants and the Colorado Rockies in Coors Field.

Posey was diagnosed with the viral infection on Monday, when he had a planned day of rest. He assumed he would be fine after Tuesday's break in the schedule. But Hector Sanchez replaced him behind the plate in Wednesday's lineup, batting fifth.

Posey has gotten off to a nice start in 2012. He managed to go 2 for 4 from the plate in his first game back against the Diamondbacks, and then went 2 for 4 again on Sunday, including nailing his first home run of the season. He could be a big loss in the lineup, particularly with a team needing some more consistent offense.

Posey should be back soon. In fact he fosters hopes of playing sometime today.

To talk about the impact of not having Posey in the lineup with Giants fans, head on over to McCovey Chronicles. To discuss what no Posey means for Rockies fans, go to Purple Row.
