Buster Posey Walking Freely, Will Be Giants Catcher in 2012

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle got a chance to catch up with San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey for a bit of an injury update on the defending rookie of the year. Posey is out of his cast and walking on his own without a sign of a limp, but still is unable to do anything more than that right now.

"I'm walking around mostly pain-free," Posey said. "It's exciting. But I can't go out and jog or anything."

Buster will head to Arizona in a couple of weeks to continue his rehabilitation process, which for now will include regaining range of motion in his lower extremities. Buster stated that he's lost about 10-12 pounds of muscle over the past few months considering he hasn't been able to lift weights, but isn't concerned with gaining it back in the gym. He is working towards being able to catch some bullpen and side sessions by October down in Scottsdale and is certain that he will be the Giants catcher come opening day of the 2012 season.

"I sure as heck hope so...that's the goal. That's why we're putting all the work in now. I love catching. I love working with this staff."
