As if the San Francisco Giants needed any more injuries, they might have dodged a bullet on Wednesday night, even if it might have come to one of the least productive players as of late.
Outfielder Cody Ross took a pitch off of his hand in last night's game with the Chicago Cubs, forcing the team to take some precautionary x-rays. Luckily they came back negative, and Ross should be good to go by Friday when the Giants take on the first place Arizona Diamondbacks in a fight to the death for the NL West title. Via San Jose Mercury News' Andrew Baggarly:
Almost forgot: Cody Ross had X-rays on his hand. They were negative. He should be OK on Friday.
Cody has always been a streaky hitter, but he's been more of a free-fall as of late than a slump. Ross batted .176 (15-85) with 19 strikeouts to just 9 walks in the month of August, along with a .152 average since the All-Star break. Hopefully he can spark some of his late season magic of last season, Lord knows the Giants need it.
