With the waiver deadline passing at 10:00 am PT the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres did not come to an agreement that would send All-Star closer Heath Bell to the San Francisco Giants. It is currently unknown if there were any discussions at all between these two teams, or if it was simply a ploy by the Giants to block Bell going to another NL contender like the Diamondbacks or even the Phillies.
Here’s official as it gets, a tweet from Jon Heyman:
no deal for bell, officially. still a padre.
It was a pipe dream from the start to think the Giants had a chance to rip an All-Star from a division rival, and now it’s officially over.
