The San Francisco Giants injury train just keeps on truckin’ as the team announced that starting pitcher Jonathan Sanchez has been placed on the DL retroactive to August 17 due to his sprained ankle. This means call-up Dan Runzler will get at least one more shot as a starter with the Black and Orange until Sanchez can return to form.
Outfielder Pat Burrell is about to begin a minor league rehab assignment with High-A San Jose on Wednesday. Burrell has been out since July 14 with a bone spur in his foot that causes too much pain to run on at this point, but will serve as a DH with San Jose on Wednesday.
Lastly outfielder Nate Schierholtz will try to play through a fracture in his foot that was discovered by an MRI earlier this week. Schierholtz was seen wearing a walking boot around the clubhouse but plans on giving it a few days rest, then play on it for the rest of the year. Nate and team doctors are confident that no more damage can come from where the fracture occurred.
