After a bit of a heartbreaker at the hands of the San Diego Padres Tuesday night the San Francisco Giants are looking to regroup behind Tim Lincecum and earn a series split during the short two game set.
Lincecum (11-10 2.53 ERA) is coming off of another great outing last week against the Braves, seven innings of one run ball on only five hits. Unfortunately, those numbers also equated to a loss as the Giants offense left Lincecum out to dry for the ninth time of the year. Timmy is 7-4 with a 2.16 ERA and 124 strikeouts in 16 career outings against the Padres.
As for the Padres Tim Stauffer (8-9 3.43 ERA), he's coming off of a win against the Marlins in which he allowed the same line as Timmy, one run on five hits in seven innings, but fortunately had an offense that supported him for a 3-1 victory.
Carlos Beltran will likely be back in the lineup tonight, hopefully giving the offense a boost, while Nate Schierholtz will try to play though a fracture in his foot. Jonathan Sanchez was place on the DL retroactive to August 17, while Pat Burrell will begin a minor league rehab assignment to work on his foot. The injury woes never stop.
The Giants have used the disabled list 23 times this season for 19 players. The 23 transactions are the second most of any team in the Majors this season, trailing the Dodgers' 24 trips to the DL. The Giants sent 13 players to the disabled list for 15 stints in 2010. They also were 6.5 games back of the Padres at this point last season, while they are only 2 games behind the D'backs this year.
First pitch is set for 7:15 pm PT this evening with coverage on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680 AM.
