Barry Zito Injured In Fresno, Needed To Be Helped Off Field

San Francisco Giants pitcher Barry Zito went down in a rehab start for the Fresno Grizzlies in the third inning (photo here). It's speculated that it was his ankle that got hurt after he came off the mound to back up a throw on an infield single, as he came up lame on his right foot. He was assisted off the field by some of his teammates.

The Giants fanbase is probably devastated by the news. With Jonathan Sanchez escorting opposing hitters to first base on a regular basis, the Giants need a fifth starter, and Zito certainly does fit the bill. Considering San Francisco is putting up one or two runs every week or so, the need for quality pitching has become all the more paramount, and Zito could be the guy San Francisco relies on.

Oh, who am I kidding. The Facebook group for "Call up Surkamp!" just grew another ten thousand.
