The San Francisco Giants find themselves in a spot they haven’t been in much this season, on the verge of being swept. The Giants haven’t been swept since the last installment of the Bay Bridge Series with the Oakland A’s in June, but are in danger of putting up a goose egg in a series for the fourth time this season.
And to put even more pressure on the team today, Barry Zito will basically have a ‘make or break’ start Sunday; if he pitches poorly he will likely be yanked from the rotation. Zito struggled mightily in his last start, hopefully he can right the ship today.
As for the lineup, Aaron Rowand will be leading off and playing center field once again, while Orlando Cabrera will be making his Giants debut batting sixth and playing shortstop. Brandon Belt will be at first, batting seventh, while Eli Whiteside will be the backstop once again to catch Barry Zito.
In a corresponding roster move, the Giants sent Brandon Crawford back to triple-A Fresno to make room for Cabrera. Crawford hit .190/.275/.261 with San Francisco this season.
