Giants' Ryan Vogelsong Had An All Star Bonus Clause ... Last Year

Ryan Vogelsong is wholly deserving of his All Star appearance, and everyone in the Giants clubhouse agrees. He might prefer that it was something that he'd accomplish sooner in his career, though. By "sooner", I mean last year. Dan Brown of the Mercury News put together two pieces on Vogelsong and his story. The first one is here, and then after that, he had even more left over he needed to post.

I've gotta say the bits in the "left over" piece are quite interesting and made me read the full article. The fact that Vogelsong notes in his split contract with the Phillies, he had an all-star bonus and even a Cy Young bonus, as part of their standard contract. He remarks how he couldn't help but laugh at the fact, and now he's representing the National League as one of its pitchers, being completely shutdown in his time on the mound since Barry Zito's injury.

I guess it goes to show you that anybody can make it any year. They just have to figure out the game, and he's most certainly done that. After one game, it was cautious optimism. Now he inspires confidence every time he takes the mound. It's a shame he couldn't get an all-star bonus this year, but I daresay he's happy on the Giants, lest he never get this chance.
